Revered as
a martyr, Saint Damien served victims
of Hanson's Disease, formerly known as leprosy, on
Molokai.
Banished to a remote windswept peninsula, separated
from the rest of the island by a treacherous high
seacliff,
the patients relied on him for both spiritual and
physical care.
An excellent carpenter, he built several churches
on Molokai
before dying of the disease himself in 1889.

There are many ways to remind
ourselves of the wonderful selfless work Saint Damien
did on Molokai. Recognized at last for his passionate
dedication to the sufferers of Hanson's Disease, these
momentos have been created in honor of Saint Damien.
Many of these keepsakes depict Saint Damien in the
prime of his life and work, looking up to the heavens,
praying for the patients at Kalaupapa. The warm glow
of Hawaii surrounds him and shows that his saintliness
was recognized from above long ago.
His precious hands are included in honor of the relic
that remains on his beloved Molokai. Artistic inspiration
came from the works of the renaissance masters to
capture the essence of religious art. The connection
with the spirit and energy of his work is evident
in the reverence in his eyes.
A suggestion of St. Philomena’s Church as it appears
in modern day demonstates the timeless relevance of
his message of compassion and tolerance. Molokai's
wonderful ocean and seacliffs set the background.
The Saint Damien in Prayer
Painting was
created in full color acrylics by Molokai artist, Linda Johnston
after 3 years of research and preliminary sketches.
Matted Prints in 2 sizes: This popular
image of Saint Damien is available as matted prints
designed to fit in standard 8"x 10" frames
or standard 11"x14" frames. Both come double-matted
with a deluxe gold matboard inner mat and white outer
mat.
Giclees in 2 sizes are also available:
Giclees are high-quality reproductions printed on
canvas. They are reputed to be the closest thing you
can get to the original painting. Giclees are also
available in 8"x 10" and 11"x14"
sizes. All giclees are shipped rolled in tubes, ready
for stretching and framing.
Note: Rush shipping is not available
on Saint Damien giclees.
Frameable Greeting Cards are deluxe
quality acid-free with a green deckle edge on both
the card and matching envelope. Green is Molokai Island's
official color. The inside of the card is blank. These
greeting cards fit a standard 8"x 10" mat with a 4.5"x
6.5" opening. A mat and backer is required to make
these cards frame-ready.
Notecards with envelopes are available
in 5.5" x 4.24" size printed on white stock.
Fridge Magnets measure approximately
2.5" x 3.5".
Bookmarks are sturdy laminated and
are suitable for Bibles and Hymnals. Bookmarks measure
approximately 2" x 7.5".
Luggage Tags measure approximately
2.5" x 4.25" with a strong 5.5" plastic
leash. Write your contact information on the surface
of the tag with an indelible marker, then make your
pilgrimmage to Molokai!
L-o-n-g Postcards
